This 2019 American superhero film is the 4th film in a series that is based on a comic book superhero team. The last sequel left off with the universe in ruins after the devastating events of a war. How-To Tuesday

Learn seven skills in one evening--all for free!    Join us from 5:30-8PM, Tuesday August 27, as we showcase some of the diverse talents that make our community special.

There will be 7 demo stations set up all around the library.  Arrive at 5:30 and you will have time to enjoy all of them.  (This is a continuation of the educational “How-To Tuesdays” series that we launched in July.)
Upon entering the library, a volunteer will present you with a “passport” that lists every station.  Visit the stations in any order, look-listen-learn, and a presenter will stamp your passport.  Deliver your completed passport to the front desk, and it will be entered into a drawing for prizes!

We recruited local volunteers to share these  fun and practical skills:

•             How to Travel with Pets—Dr. Bill Pollak, Fairfield Animal Hospital
•             How to Illustrate a Book—Judith Hans-Price, Illustrator
•             How to Make Smoothies—Andy Soares, Andy’s Juice Joint
•             How to Tell Your (Marketing) Story—Jeffrey Hedquist, Hedquist Productions
•             How to Grow Succulents—Master Gardeners Sharon Leazer and Gerri Lyon
•             How to Recycle Right!—Chris Bettin, Waste Management
•             How to Learn a Foreign Language—Fairfield Public Library

How-To events can open your eyes to a new world of interests.  Here's a chance to soak up the library's D.I.Y. resources, and learn something new!  This event is free, and no registration is required.

Monarch Tagging: Jefferson County Conservation

For the past several years high numbers of migrating monarchs have been found at Zillman Hickory Hills. Join us for a fun evening of catching, tagging and releasing monarch butterflies as they begin their annual migration. Monarch butterflies cannot survive our cold Iowa winters, instead they travel up to 3,000 miles south to forests high in the mountains of Mexico. Monarchs will stop to nectar along the way which is to our advantage. Not only do they help to pollinate our plants, but it also gives us the opportunity to see them. We will be assisting with monarch research by catching the butterflies, placing a small tag on their wing, recording their information and releasing them to continue on their long journey. These tags help researchers to learn about the migration of the monarch.
